A door opening opportunity for Edtech platforms–
This corona crisis in India acted as a catalyst in bringing the concept such as Work from Home, learn from Home and virtual meeting at the forefront which was considered a myth sometime back.
With the sudden surge in the number of subscribers on all Edtech platforms such as Byjus, udemy, Upgrad this gives the founders a sense of feeling that the audience has started to embrace the concept of online learning and this will lead to opening the doors of opportunities to the Edtech platforms.
In a nutshell, we can say- Learning never stops in the internet age.
Here
in this article, instead of painting a picture of the market size and growth
trajectory, we shall emphasize on how we could use this opportunity in solving
our countries real-time problems in the field of education.
A revolution which changed the face of Industry but not the education sector –
Over the centuries with the changing market
opportunities, a new technology emerges which enhances the ways a product is
being manufactured and delivered by the industry, leading to the industrial revolution.
Each revolution demands industry to upgrade
themselves and revisit their SOP’s, methods of working, or either they will be
washed out with this technology wave.
So, here when the point comes of survival and gaining momentum in the market by adopting changes, hence industries had to play this game.
Why this didn’t get reflected in the education
sector?
As the industrial revolution started taking
shape, jobs in the industries started changing. Industries started demanding
manpower who are more skilled and upgraded and coping this was a bigger
challenge.
The contents of the education sector were
designed considering the initial revolutions which had happened in the
industry. But this content was not upgraded or updated with the industry
demands.
Major problems in the education sector –
1. The content didn’t get
updated. `
2. The individual who
delivered the content didn’t get updated.
3. Delivery methods,
effective reach of contents, and practical approach.
4. Application of learning.
We have made education so easy for getting grades, but unfortunately not for Understanding.
What did the industry do to cope up with this
challenges?
Industries started with dedicated internal
training departments to upgrade the skills & deliver the need of the industry
to the employee and fresh graduates.
But over the time it led to a financial
burden for the organization & companies are now giving a second thought
mainly to cut costs. So, overall its making companies stressful to get
candidates trained before they step into the industry.
But what if such standardization and SOP’s
come in the education field where teaching methodologies are standardized and
these candidates are trained in accordance with the industry requirements.
So, this gave birth to a concept called education technology.
Edtech?
Edtech is mainly where industrial methods,
content, and techniques are merging together with education to enhance the
quality of education and the way it is being delivered.
Edtech has 2 categories under its umbrella –
1. Educational
management.
It is planning, managing & directing the activities of institutes.
2. Education learning/E-learning.
Online learning or MOOC- It’s a way of easing the way we learn or teach with the help of electronic media.
E-learning :
Over the years, technology has revolutionized our world and daily lives, the way we work and do business. But have we ever imagined how effective it would be when technology marries the way we learn.
It has 2 types –
1. Synchronous learning: It’s like a virtual classroom that involves online studies through live chat and videoconferencing. This kind of learning tool is real-time.
2. Asynchronous learning: It involves learning through recorded sessions via the web. In such cases, students ideally complete the course at their own pace, by using the internet.
How E-learning can be effectively used to solve the Indian
education system?
We come across that the Engineering
graduates are not capable to be employed. But have we ever thought of going to
the roots and understanding the real challenges faced by these graduates?
If we go to the roots you will find that
these masses did not get an opportunity or platform to explore the new skills,
learn new methodologies & techniques required or demanded by the
industries.
So, with E-learning, we can bring people
from the education sector, experts from industries & their technique in
conjunction with the internet which will help these graduates understand what is to
be learned and which direction we need to move.
When we standardize this content at an
affordable rate and make accessible to graduates, we will be actually
empowering them to take a bigger leap.
